Vietnam Visa Guide 2026: Everything You Need to Know

Planning a trip to Vietnam? Here’s a clear and up-to-date guide to Vietnam visa requirements in 2026, including visa exemptions, e-visas, and what to expect before you travel.

Vietnam Visa Overview

Vietnam offers a range of visa options depending on your nationality and length of stay:

Visa Exemptions – Short stays without a visa for selected countries
E-Visas – The most common and recommended option for most travellers, allowing for a 30-day single-entry or 90 day single or multi-entry visit.
Visa on Arrival (VOA) – Now limited and only used in special circumstances

Visa Exemptions

Travellers from selected countries can enter Vietnam visa-free for a set number of days. If you wish to stay longer than your exemption period, you will need to apply for an e-visa.

  • Cambodia – 30 days

  • Kyrgyzstan – 30 days
  • Laos – 30 days
  • Malaysia – 30 days
  • Myanmar – 14 days
  • Norway – 45 days
  • Panama – 90 days
  • Philippines – 21 days
  • Russia – 45 days
  • Singapore – 30 days
  • South Korea – 45 days
  • Spain – 45 days
  • Sweden – 45 days
  • Thailand – 30 days
  • United Kingdom – 45 days

Arrival in Vietnam with Visa Exemption

If you are entering Vietnam under a visa exemption, here’s what you can expect:

NOTE: As of April 2026, all international passport holders need to fill in a entry form when flying into Ho Chi Minh City (Tan Son Nhat Airport). https://prearrival.immigration.gov.vn/

  1. Head to the immigration line at the airport.
  2. Get your stamp from immigration.
  3. Proceed to the baggage claim to collect your luggage.
  4. Pass through customs, which is typically a quick and cursory check.
  5. Welcome to Vietnam! No extra paperwork required.

What is a Vietnam e-Visa?

The Vietnam e-Visa is an online visa available to nationals of 80 countries. Here are the key details for 2025:

  • Validity: 30 days, single-entry & 90 day multi-entry
  • Cost: USD 25 - 50 (plus any credit card fees)
  • Processing time: Typically 3 - 7 working days (apply at least a week in advance incase there are issues or holidays)
  • Application process: Complete the application online, submit required documents (passport data page and photo), and make the payment.

Vietnam e-Visa Requirements:

Vietnam Electronic Visa Portal will operate on two new domains: https://evisa.gov.vn and https://thithucdientu.gov.vn

NOTE: If you are not using one of these links you are using a second party website and may have issues

  1. Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date.
  2. Passport photo in JPEG format (4x6, white background, no glasses).
  3. International credit or debit card for payment.
  4. Email address for support purposes.
  5. Temporary address in Vietnam.
  6. Entry and exit dates and airports.

Visa on Arrival (VOA)

As of 2026, Visa on Arrival is no longer commonly used and is generally only available in emergency or special cases.

For most travellers, we strongly recommend using the e-visa system instead.

  • For land border or waterway crossings, travelers from non-exempt countries (or those staying longer than their exemption period) must have a visa before arrival.

🚨 Important Entry Update (Ho Chi Minh City)

Travellers arriving into Ho Chi Minh City Internationally are now required to complete a pre-arrival declaration.
